SELA INTERNATIONAL LTD is an international trading company incorporated in Mauritius, with its registered office in Port Louis. Its business is buying goods from vetted producers and suppliers worldwide, and reselling them to professional buyers across African, Indian Ocean, Middle Eastern and European markets.
What we do
Between a factory able to produce and a buyer able to sell, the same thing is almost always missing: someone to carry the risk. Someone who makes sure that the goods match the specification, that the documents will clear customs, that the container will sail on the planned vessel — and who answers if they do not.
That is the function of a trading house, and it is SELA INTERNATIONAL LTD’s. The company buys in its own name and resells in its own name. It is neither a broker nor a marketplace: the buyer has one contractual counterparty, however many factories are mobilised behind it.
Why Mauritius
Mauritius sits on the axis connecting Asian production basins to East and Southern African markets. The country is a member of SADC, COMESA, the Indian Ocean Commission and the AfCFTA. Its law combines French-inspired civil and commercial law with a strong English common-law influence in procedure and company law, which makes a single contract legible to counterparties from both legal traditions. The UTC+4 time zone overlaps the Asian working day in the morning and the European one in the afternoon.
Our commitments
Documentary transparency
Inspection reports are passed to the buyer in full, including where their findings are adverse. A lot that fails inspection is reported to the buyer before any shipping decision is made.
Systematic competition
As a rule, every reference is put to several suppliers before it is offered. The price quoted results from a comparison, not from habit.
Single accountability
SELA buys and resells in its own name. In the event of non-conformity, the buyer does not have to pursue a factory on the other side of the world: their recourse is against SELA, on the terms set out in the terms and conditions of sale.
Destination-market compliance
Labelling, language, regulatory statements, fire rating, remaining shelf life: compliance is checked before production, at source, not on landing.
